"Like Our Life Depends on It"
1 Peter 4:7-11, "The end of all things is near; therefore be serious and discipline yourselves for the sake of your prayers. Above all, maintain constant love for one another, for love covers a multitude of sins. Be hospitable to one another without complaining. Like good stewards of the manifold grace of God, serve one another with whatever gift each of you has received. Whoever speaks must do so as one speaking the very words of God; whoever serves must do so with the strength that God supplies, so that God may be glorified in all things through Jesus Christ. To him belong the glory and the power forever and ever. Amen."

A Youth Minister's Reflection on KONY 2012
by Joanna Simmerman, Youth Minister, Mt. Carmel CPC, Franklin, TN, Columbia Presbytery
Last month the organization Invisible Children (IC) released a video and social media campaign to bring to light the atrocities committed by Joseph Kony and the Lord's Resistance Army (LRA). The video is 30 minutes long and is very well made. I highly recommend taking some time to watch it, as well as the most recent videos from IC.
Joseph Kony is a rebel military leader in Uganda who kidnaps children from their homes, sells the girls as sex slaves, and forces the boys to be child soldiers to fight for him. He has done this to over 30 million children so far and yet very little of the world has even heard of him. He is currently hiding in the jungle in or around Uganda and the Ugandan army cannot find him in order to arrest him. The United States currently has 100 troops serving as advisors to the Ugandan army by providing technology and training to help track down Kony, but the concern is that the government will lose interest and pull our troops out before Kony is found.
This is where the Kony 2012 movement comes in: this is the year that we need to catch Kony and stop him for good. If we can make Kony famous, we can gather support and rally the government to do something about him. Our job is to talk about him, to make him an everyday topic, to go to our governmental officials and demand they do something about him, and on April 20 go out and "cover the night" by blanketing our towns in posters so that everyone will have a chance to hear about Kony.
